Don’t worry it is not at all complicated! This blog will take you through the meaning of SaaS and its pros and cons .So you know about the deployment option you want and you can carry out your HR Activities at full efficiency!

What is SaaS (Software as a Service)?

Software as a Service (SaaS) or more commonly referred to as “On-Cloud” Deployment is the type of software deployment wherein the system is installed on  the provider’s end or a third-party host. Following are the advantages and disadvantages of a SaaS deployment option:

Pros:
  • Accessibility

With your Login ID and Password, you can access cloud hosted HRMS from anywhere at any time. On-Cloud HR Systems can be accessed through Android, iOS and Web. provided that the solution provider is present on these platforms. With a good internet connection, SaaS deployed systems are very accessible

  • Affordability

Cloud based HRM systems are cheaper as compared to an on-premise HRMS in the short term as there is no huge upfront cost. On-Cloud deployment asks for payements at regular intervals though. These periodic payments include the maintenance costs, support costs and licensing as well. It is advisable for a smaller organisation with no dedicated server to go for SaaS deployment as- 1) There is no requirement of a server  and 2) There is no requirement for technical experts. Cutting out these two factors greatly affect the cost of implementation and the system as well.

  • Easy Maintenance

Maintenance is very easy with cloud hosted HRMS. Since it is externally hosted, there is no need for you to worry about or invest time in the maintenance of your software. You just need to ensure timely payment of maintenance fees. With SaaS deployment you do not need to worry about the technical part of the maintenance of the.

  • Easy Deployment

A cloud hosted HRMS is easier to deploy as it is accessible through the internet. It can be set up in less time as there is no need to install a physical server. Deployment here, also takes a lot less time and is quicker than the traditional on premise deployment. The deployment and usage is as easy as installing an application.

Cons:
  • Connectivity

With HRMS deployed on cloud, there is a necessity of a reliable internet connection as the server is accessed through the internet. If you do not have a strong, secure and reliable internet connection, you might face some inconveniences when trying to connect.

  • Customisation

Since the system is not present on the premises of your organisation, customisation and/or configuration of the system is a difficult process. Also sometimes, complex configurations may not align with a cloud server. Customisation, though limited, is possible. Do contact your service provider to ask if the customisations you require go with the guidelines set by them. All in all, SaaS allows customization but on a limited basis.

In conclusion, SaaS or On-Cloud deployment is advisable to start ups or smaller organisations. Since it is very flexible and affordable, smaller organisations should consider Software as a Service option for deployment. But still, it all depends on the decision maker, these were the pros and cons of SaaS which would help you make the decision.
